What Causes Piano Parts To Break?
In general pianos are resilient instruments. They are durable and long lasting. I have tuned many pianos that are over 60 years old. I have even tuned some that were over 100 years old. However, a piano is not just a beautiful instrument. It is also a complex machine. As with many machines from time to time parts will break. What causes this? Piano parts are made of many different materials. Felt, metal, wood and even plastic. With the changes in temperature and humidity, wood piano parts can expand and contract. Felt parts can get worn from constant use. Strings can pop do to humidity combined with heavy playing. Glued joints can come apart due to years of playing and temperature change. The list goes on. Of course one of the biggest reasons I have found for pianos needing repair is the human element. Drinks spilled into pianos, things dropped on the keys, pencils and other objects falling into the piano etc. All these things lead to me receiving call.
My Service
I can help get your piano up and running in no time. I offer repairs on most common problems. I would like to clarify that I do not do rebuilding work. I do not restring whole pianos, replace soundboards or bridges, replace pin blocks, or do plate or case work. These are very large, expensive and time consuming jobs. They require a larger shop then i currently have. However, I do offer the following repair services:
Replacing broken strings
Replacing/repairing broken action parts(hammers,jacks,flanges etc.)
Replacing/repairing broken keys.
Repairing /replacing key tops
Repairing pedal mechanism
Repairing dampers
If you have any questions as to whether I offer a particular service feel free to contact me and ask. I will gladly answer all your questions.
